Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri says he wants Walter Gargano to stay – but he didn’t exactly rule out a summer exit.

The Uruguayan has been linked with a move away from the Stadio San Paolo outfit, despite his importance to the side.

“You shouldn’t ask me whether Gargano could be sold,” the tactician stated. “Gargano has been an important player for me over the last three years.

“He’s always been a first-team player and he is one of the architects behind the growth of Napoli.

“As a Coach, all I can say is that I want motivated players. Those that stay at this club must be proud to play for Napoli.”

The midfielder recently committed his future to the Italian outfit in response to the speculation around his future.

“I have a contract at Napoli and I’m happy to be here,” the 27-year-old commented. “I’ll stay until the club decide to sell me.”

Gargano joined the Stadio San Paolo outfit in the summer of 2007 from Danubio. He is contracted to the Naples-based team until June 2015.
