The Italian is currently recovering from knee ligament damage sustained earlier this year and is unlikely to play again until early 2013. However, with his current side Villarreal now relegated from the Spanish Primera Division, he is still being linked with a transfer this summer.

It is a situation that Rossi’s representative believes is likely, with one club in particular regularly paired with the 25-year-old.

“I cannot exclude the possibility of a move to Napoli,” Federico Pastorello declared on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli this afternoon.

“Currently he is a Villarreal player, that’s for sure. But, the market is open and we’ve yet to see its full potential. I cannot rule out a move to the Azzurri, I can’t really exclude anything.

“We are looking around to find the best solution that can be shared with Villarreal. I can confirm that De Laurentiis has already asked Villarreal about Rossi, but we have yet to have a concrete bid.

“Giuseppe returns next February, but it is normal for the market to accelerate in the last two weeks of August.”

Pastorello then explained how he sees a deal for the crocked striker going through months before he can play again.

“It could take as little as €10m to buy him, but that also isn’t enough, let me explain – to buy Pepito then you can work at this level, but then I think that Villarreal would want an assurance that if he returns to being a player scoring 30-35 goals a season, then his initial valuation from last summer may be guaranteed again.

“I imagine that there will be a deal where there will be a fixed amount to start with, but a very big bonus also inserted. The price, however, will ultimately be down to the President of Villarreal.”
