Fabio Capello is looking forward to his “splendid adventure” in charge of the Russian national side.

The country’s FA confirmed that they will hire the Italian tactician, although he has yet to sign a contract.

“If things are resolved in the best possible manner, as the Russian FA have declared, then I will be delighted and proud,” he told ANSA.

“I’m happy and if everything goes well with regard to the contract, which I think it will, then it will be a splendid adventure.

Reports in Italy this evening are suggesting that Capello will sign a two-year deal which will be worth around €5m a season.

Capello, 66, has been out of a job since he resigned as boss of the England national side in February. He is expected in Moscow later this week to wrap up negotiations.
