Inter President Massimo Moratti hailed “an important victory, but we need more ambition and grit against Marseille.”

The Nerazzurri were without a win since January, picking up two points from their last nine official games, but scored twice in the final minutes to conquer Chievo 2-0 on Friday night.

“The result was the most important thing, then I am happy the team is growing and the goals can also give us a morale boost going forward to the next challenges,” said the patron.

“At the end everyone was embracing and happy, especially as there was a special party atmosphere with it being the ‘birthday’ of Inter.

“This result will help the lads against Marseille in the Champions League, but they already know the importance of that game and how to overturn the result.”

However, Moratti was not entirely content with the performance ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash.

“Inter played with more confidence and that is a good thing, though I think we need more ambition and grit against Marseille. We can do better, but without doubt it was an ‘Inter’ performance, because they won with confidence.”

Marseille are in worse shape, as they suffered a fourth consecutive defeat on Friday evening, losing 1-0 to Ajaccio at the 89th minute.

President Moratti gave a final comment to Ezequiel Lavezzi, who netted again for Napoli.

“I’d sign Lavezzi straight away. I have to compliment Walter Mazzarri, because it’s easy to have great players, but not so easy to get them playing as well as he does.”
