The 34-year-old was set to be recalled to the Giro Azzurro for this week’s friendly against America until he recently picked up a foot injury.

Although he did make a scoring return to action last night, he wasn’t included in Cesare Prandelli’s latest squad.

However, Prandelli’s assistant, Gabriele Pin, has been in contact with the striker to confirm that he is still a contender to make Euro 2012.

Di Natale has never been called up by Prandelli and hasn’t played for his country since World Cup 2010.

Di Natale, the Serie A top scorer from the last two seasons, has netted 18 goals in 23 League appearances so far this term.

Roma and Italy Under-21 striker Fabio Borini has been called up into the set-up for the first time given the absences of Antonio Cassano, Giuseppe Rossi, Mario Balotelli and Di Natale.
