Linked with a host of clubs this January, Radja Nainggolan has declared that he if he were to ever leave Cagliari, it will be for another League.

The young Belgian midfielder has reportedly caught the eye of a number of teams in Italy and across Europe after 18 months with the Rossoblu. Where Manchester City are one such side, it was recently reported that Juventus were considering a move in this transfer window to secure the No 4.

However, the player recently rated as worth €100m by club President Massimo Cellino has intimated that he is not interested in a move at the moment and that if he were to leave Sardinia, it would likely be to go abroad.

“To Cagliari I owe everything – here I found peace, serenity and a starting spot in Serie A. In addition, there is a project with this team, you will see in June.

“The rumours are just rumours, but certainly I am glad to see my name associated with such names. I’m doing great in Cagliari, where, if there should come a time for my departure, I would then prefer to leave to go abroad, to try a new challenge.”

Seeing as he has been linked with CSKA Moscow, the midfielder was pressed as to whether the Russian League was a desired destination.

“In Russia it is cold, as the President said, but it is undeniable that there are good wages over there. But I repeat, I am fine here and I just think about Cagliari.

“I do not know the Russian League, but we all know there is money there. And I am convinced that in a few years it will be a more competitive League than it is today.

“Anyone who has the opportunity to improve themselves would take it. But for me this time has not yet arrived, because I’m very happy in Cagliari.”

After clarifying his point and suggesting that until at least June he will be staying in Sardinia, the 23-year-old turned his attention to short-term objectives, namely his team’s weekend clash with Fiorentina.

“It will be an important game, especially for us. If we should so happen as to fail, it would be bad, given that there are teams currently behind us who could pass by.”
