Inter may have won five games in a row, but Thiago Motta insists that Milan will start Sunday’s derby as favourites.

“Milan will go into the game in better shape,” the Nerazzurri midfielder told the Corriere dello Sport. “The League table says that.

“They are top and they are the ‘home’ team. However, they also have the most to lose as it is hard to pick yourselves up after a derby loss.”

The Rossoneri are joint-leaders with Juventus, eight points clear of fifth-placed Inter who could get back into the title race with a win.

“Right now I’d say that the Scudetto isn’t possible,” the Brazilian-born Italian international added. “However, in two or three months…”

The Beneamata started the campaign in a disastrous fashion and new boss Gian Piero Gasperini was replaced by Claudio Ranieri in September.

“Ranieri looked to put everyone in their right place,” Motta stated when questioned about the former Roma boss.

“The side which won the treble here no longer exists as that was three years ago – which is a long time in football.

“In three or four seasons from now Barcelona will no longer be Barcelona…”
