New Bologna boss Stefano Pioli is confident that the squad is good enough to survive in Serie A this season.

The Rossoblu sacked Pierpaolo Bisoli yesterday after just one point from five games sees them rooted to the bottom of the table.

While Davide Ballardini turned down an offer from the club given his worries about the strength of the side, Pioli remains optimistic.

"I'm convinced that Bologna are an important club," stated the former Parma and Chievo Verona tactician.

"This squad has the capabilities to have an excellent season. We'll need time, but we have to start improving.

"The support of the fans could also provide an extra weapon for us – we have to repay them for their backing."

Pioli's appointment comes just 35 days after he was sacked by Palermo, just weeks into his reign, on the eve of the new season.

"I'm very happy and satisfied to have been given this opportunity," continued the Coach. "I thank the club, even if I always knew that I would one day boss Bologna."
