Italy boss Cesare Prandelli would like to talk to Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi following the violent conduct he showed against Shakhtar Donetsk.

De Rossi was caught on camera throwing an elbow at Darijo Srna and UEFA have opened an official investigation. He is expected to receive a three or four match ban.

Reports in the Italian media suggest De Rossi has fallen foul of the FIGC's 'ethical code', which would preclude Prandelli from calling up the 27-year-old for international duty until his punishment is completed.

Giancarlo Abete, the President of the FIGC, said on Thursday that the ball is in Prandelli's court and he must decide the action to take.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Prandelli said: "De Rossi is a guy who loves Roma a lot and he probably has a strong responsibility on his shoulders.

"I want to hear from him and to speak to him, then we'll face up to the argument together.

"I will speak with Daniele. These lads must remember that they represent the national team even when they wear the shirt of their clubs.

"But we need to understand what Daniele is going through," he concluded.
