Speaking at his official unveiling, Montella explained what he had told the players.

"In life I decided to be a Coach and I believe in my abilities like I believe in yours.

"You are a strong group and I am proud to be your Coach.

"I am convinced that this season will not be wasted. Great results can still come.

"The club has not placed vetoes of any nature on me. I have played with some of you and I am a friend to many of you, but I will not be influenced by our relationships.

"I will decide everything in my head, hoping to do well and to exploit your qualities as best as possible."
