Salah looked to have broken through he Spaniard’s rearguard with half-time approaching, burning former Milan man Adil Rami for pace.
However, the Frenchman recovered just enough to nick the ball away from the Egyptian as he bore down on Rico’s goal.
It was 3-0 soon after with a fantastic piece of football. Miralem Pjanic knocked a fantastic ball through for Salah, who lobbed the ball over Rico and into the path of Dzeko, who knocked the ball down and passed into the gaping goal.
Dzeko added an assist just a minute later, picking the ball up on the right-hand side of the box and knocking it across for Radja Nainggolan to slot home.
The Bosnian looked in no mood to slow down as the second half underway, Falque’s centre just evading him at the near post for what could have been a debut hat-trick.
Sevilla had the chance to get back into the game with 51 minutes played, Ciro Immobile hitting the post after some sloppy Roma defending.
Unai Emery’s men would come to regret that, as just a minute later Salah made it 5-0.
The former Chelsea man won the ball back, ran in behind and, having spotted nobody in the box, took the ball on himself and slammed it in at the near post.
New hero Dzeko was replaced with an hour played, but any disappointment the crowd may have felt was tempered by the introduction of Francesco Totti.

Roma’s numerous substitutions appeared to have a negative effect on their rearguard, and Suarez slalomed through with just over five minutes remaining, then cut back for Koke to make it 6-3.
Sevilla came back from 4-1 down to 4-4 against Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup, and threatened a similar outcome here.
The ball broke to that man Suarez following a corner, and the on-loan Barça man made it 6-4. There was just time for Reyes to miss with a rising shot, but Roma held on for a thrilling victory.
