Former Roma captain Francesco Totti said he believes Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski deserves the Ballon d’Or 2021.

The Giallorossi legend, who retired from football in July 2017, spoke to Sport ahead of the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris tonight.

Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho is among the candidates to win the award, while Lionel Messi seems to be the favourite to win it for the seventh time in his career.

Dani Alves: ‘I’d give Ballon d’Or to Eriksen’

Last year the ceremony was cancelled due to COVID-19, and Lewandowski was expected to win the coveted prize, but Totti believes he deserves it this year too.

“Let’s say we are used to seeing it assigned to someone between Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo,” Totti told Sport.

“But this year, I’d give it to Lewandowski.”
