Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic feels like ‘a leader’ after seven years with Biancocelesti and said he’s only focused ‘on playing well and helping the team’ when asked about his future at the club.

The vice-captain prepares for the match against Lokomotiv Moscow and was asked about his new role as one of the more experienced players in the squad.

“I’m happy to have been here for many years and to be the vice-captain,” Milinkovic-Savic said at a press conference.

“I feel like a leader, I have been here for seven years. But there are many other leaders, we are a nice group of close friends. This helps us achieve positive results.”

Sarri: ‘Lega out of this world, no penalty in the derby’

Milinkovic-Savic said the links with a move away from the Aquile arrives every year, but admitted he’s not thinking about a transfer until they sit down after the season.

“I’m fine, then every now and then we talk a lot, but I don’t think too much about those things,” he said.

“I think about playing well and helping the team, then at the end of the season we talk and see what’s the best thing to do.”

Former coach Nikolic is in the opposition’s dugout tomorrow: “I was a short time with him, I was there for six months.

“I was very young too, I came from the youth team, I was there for a short time. I made my debut at 3-0 for the opponents, I don’t remember all these good things.”

Milinkovic-Savic said Lazio aim to go far in the Europa League and pointed at the fact that coach Maurizio Sarri has already won the competition with Chelsea.

“Sarri has already won it once, he will want to do it again,” he said. “We will try to get as far as possible, we have the same motivations as in the Champions League.”
