Bologna will begin their bid for an immediate return to Serie A with a trip to promoted Perugia on the opening day of the 2014-15 Serie B season.
The fixtures for Italy’s second tier were announced this afternoon, with the Rossoblu’s fellow relegated sides Catania and Livorno facing home matches against Virtus Lanciano and Carpi respectively first up.
As for the teams promoted from Lega Pro alongside Perugia last term, Pro Vercelli visit Avellino, Entella host Bari and Frosinone entertain Brescia.
There is an odd look about Serie B this season, with the League currently composed of 21 teams. This is due to the League’s desire to eventually reduce its size from 22 clubs to 20.
It was decided however that this would only come into effect for this season should at least two clubs go bankrupt this summer and be forced to withdraw.
Siena have duly done so, but with no further casualties the number of second tier clubs is currently 21. This may yet still change though, with Novara, who were relegated last season, set to have an appeal to be reinstated heard on Monday.
Should it be successful, Serie B will once again be composed of 22 teams, with Novara slotting into the fixture calendar to play the team who would otherwise have a ‘rest’ week.
The first round of matches will take place on the weekend of August 30, with the final round on May 22 2015.
Opening day Serie B fixtures to be played August 30:
Avellino – Pro Vercelli
Catania – Virtus Lanciano
Crotone – Ternana
Entella – Bari
Frosinone – Brescia
Livorno – Carpi
Modena – Cittadella
Perugia – Bologna
Pescara – Trapani
Varese – Spezia
