Criscito, who returned after seven years with Zenit St Petersburg in 2018, was given a celebratory jersey ahead of the match.
“It’s a pity to not have celebrated with a win,” Criscito wrote on Instagram. “We paid for the only carelessness in the match, an openly played match.
“We deserved something more, but this is football. We look forward to other very difficult games.
“Thanks Genoa for this fantastic gift.”
Criscito has played 245 competitive games with Genoa and nine with Juventus. During his time in Russia with Zenit, the defender appeared 225 times.
The former Italy international, capped 25 times by the Azzurri, played three games during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
