Cagliari coach Rolando Maran has blamed the “high expectations” for having a “negative impact” on his side after another defeat to Napoli on Sunday.
The Rossoblu have fallen from grace after a quick start off the blocks this term and are now 11th in the League after 24 games.
During the first half of the campaign, they were as high as fourth at one point and Maran said the difficult period has been “lasting for too long” after the 1-0 defeat to Napoli at the Sardegna Arena.
“It’s not a matter of taking measures, it’s a matter of finding the right path to get us out of this period, that is lasting for a bit too long,” Maran told the reporters at a press conference. “It’s a period without a win that has been lasting for too long.
“Perhaps the great start has created expectations that are too high. I don’t say that after today, but since the match against Lazio.
“These expectations have had a negative impact; the squad have to go back and interpret the games with a bit calmer approach. We need to find this aspect, that is fundamental for me.”
Cagliari are currently on a winless run of 11 games in Serie A and have only picked up four points in their last 10 league matches.
