Lorenzo Pellegrini scored a brace at the Ennio Tardini as Roma progressed to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia with a 2-0 win against Parma.

Paulo Fonseca came out with Bryan Cristante in the heart of a back three and both sides were limited to only a few attempts in the first half.

The game was decided by two Pellegrini goals and sent Roma comfortably through to the next round of the Coppa Italia with an easy win in Emilia-Romagna.

The Italy international Pellegrini came out after the break eager to get the ball rolling and after only four minutes, he combined neatly with Nikola Kalinic and curled the ball into the far corner, beating a fully stretched Simone Colombi.

Roberto Inglese had come on for Andreas Cornelius and was close to getting an equaliser for the Ducali, but a magnificent Pau Lopez stopped the substitute’s attempt and kept Roma in the lead.

Dejan Kulusevski came on for a desperate home side but couldn’t help Roberto D’Aversa change the rhythm of the game as the Romans completely controlled the possession for most of the second half.

When Antonino Barilla clearly handled a cross by Alessandro Florenzi, Pellegrini was awarded the opportunity to score his second of the night and doubled the visitors lead with ease from the spot kick.

Justin Kluivert had a great effort after 84 minutes, as Roma continued to control the possession inside Parma’s half

Roma are through to the next round, where they will fight against Juventus for a place in the last four of the tournament.
