Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik has admitted that “we all made mistakes” towards the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s reign.

Ancelotti was sacked last week, lasting less than two years at the helm, and Milik concedes the Napoli squad could have done more to give their former coach a chance.

“I don’t want to go back and talk about Ancelotti, but we all made mistakes,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Since I’ve been at Napoli I have never experienced such a situation. Our ranking in the table cannot be true.

“We want to get back into the Champions League.”

Gennaro Gattuso has since replaced Carletto, and the Pole believes his teammates will thrive under him in a 4-3-3 system.

“We must follow Gattuso and leave our hearts on the pitch. He has clear ideas and character.

“We have players who have always played that way.”

The Partenopei face Sassuolo this weekend, hoping to end a two-month wait for a win in Serie A, while they have been handed a tie with Barcelona in the Champions League last 16.

“I can’t be happy now, we have Sassuolo, where we need to win. Winning puts pressure on the other teams.

“Football is football. I have the greatest respect for Barcelona, but never fear.”
