Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici is happy the club drew Lyon in the last 16 of the Champions League. “It could’ve been a lot worse.”

The Bianconeri travel to Lyon on February 26 with the return fixture three weeks later on March 17.

Paratici was speaking at the Golden Boy awards, where he picked up the prize for best sporting director.

“I have half a smile, because we know with the other potential opponents in pot two it could’ve been a lot worse. We know the Champions League is always challenging," he said.

Paratici also talked about last summer’s key signing Matthijs de Ligt, who won the Golden Boy award in 2018 for best young player.

“I’m sure for de Ligt it was a nice evening last year, we talked about it.

“Surely he could visit Turin and feel the environment of the city and Juventus.

“For me it’s an important evening in a city that has been my home for 10 years, I dedicate the award to all the employees who have worked with me.”

Paratici joined Juventus along with Beppe Marotta in 2010, and took over as sporting director after Marotta was forced out of the club in 2018.
