Lorenzo Pellegrini has assured Roma fans that he is “very ambitious” and would like to add “a few more goals” to his bow.

Roma face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League tomorrow, boosted by Pellegrini’s return to fitness after almost two months out with a foot injury.

“Physically I feel very good, I worked hard not to have to wait any longer to be 100 percent again and I’m very happy to have played 70 minutes already on Sunday. It was a small victory for me,” he said at a press conference.

“Physically I feel very good, I worked hard not to have to wait any longer to be 100 percent again and I’m very happy to have played 70 minutes already on Sunday. It was a small victory for me,” he said at a press conference.

“This season I really want to do well, I’m very ambitious. I hope it’s an important season for me, but I won’t presume that I’ll reach my peak.

“The peak doesn’t exist, it’s a fairly abstract objective, only achieved by always giving 100 percent.”

The 23-year-old has carved out a reputation for being a versatile midfielder, so how does he feel about it?

“Playing in so many roles isn’t a problem, it depends on how you play in them. For me, it’s an advantage.

“Knowing how to do that lets you gain more consistency. For us. the main thing is to play, especially for us young players.

“Having the chance to make a mistake is important. I like learning. If you insist on just one role, you learn only what that role entails.

“Instead, if you can also play in other roles then you can learn more and maybe do something different.

“I like to put my teammates through on goal and I crack so many jokes with my teammates, especially with Dzeko who always tells me ‘give me assists’ so he can score.

“However, I’d also like to score a few more goals. The excitement of scoring a goal and embracing your teammates afterwards is something else.”
