Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti has hit out at Serie A designator Nicola Rizzoli, stating “the referee has to decide” and not the VAR.
Among those present was Ancelotti, who was was sent off during a controversial match between Napoli and Atalanta in October.
On that occasion the VAR wasn't consulted over a penalty decision, and the 60-year-old wanted to take Rizzoli to task.
“Did you make a mistake in Napoli-Atalanta?” he asked the designator.
Rizzoli replied: “The game should have been stopped without doubt. We were wrong not to use the VAR in Napoli-Atalanta.”
“Okay, after this, may I leave?” joked the former Milan boss, who then added: “It’s enough for me to know that you made an error.
“The main problem is who referees the games. Sometimes the impression is that the matches are decided by VAR, but in my opinion it is the referee who must decide.
“For the objective decisions, okay, but for the non-objective decisions, the VAR can’t decide.”
Napoli are back in action against Milan this weekend, when Serie A resumes after the interational break.
