The Sardinians are in joint fourth place with Lazio and Atalanta after a run of six wins and three draws.

“The most important thing is that this euphoria powers us to keep going even stronger rather than slow down or rest on our laurels,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Maintaining this high tempo and performance level is what gives us the most confidence going into these games. The work we did last season has been building up to this campaign, thanks also to the new players who raised the bar.

“I am happy to be spoilt for choice in this squad, above all in midfield, and will gladly take on the difficulty of choosing a first XI from this impressive group.

“Fiorentina are unbeaten in four, they’ve kept a lot of clean sheets this season and are getting tangible results from a precise identity.

“It’s true that Franck Ribery is suspended and a big loss, but the team still has great potential, pace when taking men on and can rejiggle their tactics at any moment during a match.

“The important thing for us now is to stay focused, without thinking results will automatically go our way. The further we go, the trickier the obstacles become.”

Maran has already pledged to get a tattoo of the Cagliari club symbol if he steers this team into the Europa League.

“All joking aside, it’s good to remain in the moment without looking too far into the future,” smiled the coach.
