As for the arrest of Lazio ultras, it came as the 9,000-strong Scottish support was leaving the Olimpico, celebrating their side’s 2-1 win to reach the Europa League last 32.

The group had staged an unprovoked attack on Celtic fans, which led to one police offer also needing medical treatment for a fracture.

Despite their attempts to flee the crime scene, 12 of the ultras were eventually caught and booked by officers.

Two Celtic supporters were also stabbed before kick-off, which led their club to issue strict travel guidelines – among them not to wear green and white.
