Antonio Conte laid out Inter objectives in Serie A and the Champions League for the present and future. “Our owners are visionaries.”

The Coach gave an interview to Chinese television PPTV during the pre-season tour of Asia and naturally the focus was on the club’s owners, Suning Group.

“Our objective is to become competitive again. We know full well that in Italy there’s a team with strong foundations, which is Juventus. Behind Juventus, Napoli settled in, but Inter have an important history and tradition.

“It is our duty to bring Inter back where it belongs. It’ll take a little time, we can’t build a skyscraper in a few days, but we’ve started and want to do battle again.

“Our owners are visionaries and that is very positive. They invested in Inter because they think it’s the right club to do something important in football, not just on a European level, but a global one.

“I see in the President (Steven Zhang) a young man, very open to building something long-lasting for Inter.”

Juventus, Roma, Milan and Inter all changed their Coaches this summer, so it could be a more open campaign than we’ve seen in recent years.

“A new Coach brings new working methods and visions. It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for the Coaches to transfer their ideas over to the team. The important thing is to assimilate the changes as quickly as possible.

“I hope that Inter can be the surprise outfit of the season. I have to be honest, I’m impressed with how hard these lads are working and these are the foundations we can build on for future success.

“We’re working on a three-man defence and I think it suits the players here, but the system isn’t as important as the attitude, which must be aggressive and proactive.”

The Nerazzurri scraped qualification for the Champions League on the final day of last season and dismissed Coach Luciano Spalletti to make way for Conte.

“It is the biggest competition and you are up against the top of European football,” continued Conte. “We must be ready for any kind of draw, but at the same time want the other teams in our group to be at least slightly worried about facing Inter.

“I return to Serie A after two wonderful experiences. Leading your national team is truly unique and those emotions cannot be replicated in any other situation.

“The adventure at Chelsea was also enriching and I feel a more complete Coach now than I was before going to England.”
