According to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, Inter officials met their United counterparts in England on Thursday.
It was there that the Nerazzurri formalised their interest in Lukaku, while a fee and the structure of his transfer were also discussed.
However, the broadcasters warn the Red Devils opened negotiations at €85m, tying in with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comments that his club did not need to sell.
Nonetheless, the Beneamata would have taken note and an update is expected in a few days, even if the English giants do not look like budging.
Inter are also stalling on a deal for Roma’s Edin Dzeko and have yet to find a buyer for Mauro Icardi, who is persona non grata.
