Premier League side Leicester City and Atletico Madrid were also reported to be interested in the big target man.

Meanwhile, the Spallini are interested in bringing attacking midfielder Saponara to the Stadio Paolo Mazza this summer after his loan spell with Sampdoria came to an end.

The 27-year-old scored twice in 22 games with the Blucerchiati this season, making just 11 starts in the league, but could be the ideal player to come in and facilitate Leonardo Semplici’s proposed change in style and formation.

The side from Ferrara are also said to be tracking Sassuolo hitman Khouma Babacar, who once played for the Viola, scoring 39 times in 128 appearances during his time at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
