Roma have reportedly cooled their interest in Atalanta defender Gianluca Mancini, as new Coach Paulo Fonseca doesn’t deem him a priority.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Portuguese tactician has blocked the move for the Italy U21 international, preferring the club set their sights on other targets.

Fiorentina’s German Pezzella and Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen are among the names being tipped as potential replacements for Kostas Manolas, who is said to be close to finalising a move to Napoli.

The Giallorossi had been close to signing the 23-year-old Atalanta player in the January window for a fee somewhere around the €25m mark, as their former sporting director Monchi was a fan of the big defender.

With the many exits in the backroom this summer, the capital club appears to have changed direction and are no longer interested in the Fiorentina youth team product.
