It will be the swansong for defender Moretti, who announced his retirement this week, but he won’t be in the starting XI.

“Moretti asked me not to play because he feels too emotional. He will be celebrated by fans and teammates after the warm-up, before kick-off and if there is the opportunity, he’ll come on and receive the captain’s armband.

“After the final whistle, he’ll join the rest of the team in a lap of honour.”

Torino cannot catch Roma in sixth place, as they have an inferior head-to-head record, but there is still a very slim chance they could get into the Europa League preliminary rounds.

Milan are still dealing with Financial Fair Play issues and it has been reported they could accept a year out of UEFA competition if they only qualify for the Europa League and not the Champions League.

This would free up a space and bump Torino up, regardless of today’s result, as Lazio have already qualified for the group stage via their Coppa Italia victory.

“If we don’t lose, then at least we’ll finish seventh. We have great respect for Lazio, as everyone assumed they’d finish ahead of us in the Serie A table.

“It’s not nice to say, but this is the only season in the last four or five years that the side in seventh doesn’t qualify for Europe. If there should be a club ahead of us that has some problems, then we’d feel it only right that we go into Europe instead.

“Having said that, I am not going to wish ill upon Milan, so I am urging the players to focus only on ourselves. If we do get promoted to Europe, it’ll be because we deserved it.

“We can also look forward to next season and feel that we have laid some solid foundations. I know the President intends to confirm the core of the team and only those who want to leave will be sold.

“I’ll be more fired up for next season, certainly, because I will have more to build on and can focus on the details.”
