Bologna have officially sold defender Giancarlo Gonzalez to MLS club LA Galaxy, ending five years in Italian football.

The Costa Rica international agreed terms in January, but agreed to postpone his departure until now so he could help the Rossoblu in their battle to avoid Serie A relegation.

The LA Galaxy confirmed the transfer had been completed using Targeted Allocation Money.

He had already played in MLS for Columbus Crew in 2014 before his €3.8m move to Palermo, then joined Bologna in the summer of 2017, amassing over 100 Serie A appearances.

“Giancarlo is a very experienced and talented central defender that we believe will strengthen our backline,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese.

“He is familiar with MLS and he has played at the highest levels across the world. We are excited to add him to our roster and look forward to integrating him into our team.”
