The 0-0 result means Atalanta have caught Milan in the fourth and final Champions League berth – albeit behind due to an inferior head-to-head record – and remain five points behind third-placed Inter.

“We undoubtedly put in a solid performance with a lot of character and that wasn’t easy against such a strong Inter side,” Gasp told Sky Sport Italia.

“Despite all that, we held out well and I think more than earned this point. Obviously, the approach couldn’t be exactly the same as the other games, because we were missing Duvan Zapata.

“Josip Ilicic and Duvan Zapata make a huge difference and have done since the start of the season.”

Atalanta were targeting a Europa League spot, but the fight for the Champions League is going down to the wire, with only three point separating Atalanta, Milan, Roma, Torino and Lazio.

“We are all up there now, we’ve got seven games left to play and I wouldn’t rule Torino out, either. I think Inter are already in the Champions League by now and needn’t worry, but I think it’ll take a few more weekends before we can start to believe.

“We’re not trying to be modest or shying away from this, but we know there is a very tough road ahead. We’ll see how we do, week by week.”
