Sinisa Mihajlovic admits Bologna “lost to an Atalanta team that are stronger than we are, but must not lose hope. I have faith in the players.”

They were already 4-0 down in Bergamo within 15 minutes, swept aside by a Josip Ilicic brace, Hans Hateboer and Duvan Zapata.

“We didn’t even step on to the pitch early on, but were also unlucky that they scored with two stunners in their first two attempts,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia after a 4-1 final result.

“We lost to a team that are stronger than we are, but must not lose hope. We ran a few risks with the squad rotation and unfortunately it didn’t work.

“As I told the lads, I continue to have faith in them. They’ve given their all over the last two months and I could not have asked for more. We played the game we could play in the circumstances.

“Fortunately, there’s no time to dwell on it, because there’s Chievo coming up this weekend and we can make up for it then. I had to rotate, because we have four or five players who simply can’t handle three matches in a week.

“We lost a game, there are eight more to go and we can get out of the relegation zone again.”

This result and Empoli’s surprise 2-1 win over Napoli means Bologna slip back into the bottom three.
