The midfielder has been out for practically a year due to a tendon injury, joined Genoa in January on loan with obligation to buy and scored within two minutes of stepping off the bench for his debut.

“It’s a fantastic sensation, I only realised after a few minutes what had happened,” Sturaro told DAZN after a shock 2-0 victory.

“It has been a difficult year for me. I am still a long way off match fitness and this really couldn’t have been a better gift. This has to be the boost we need, because Genoa are largely a young squad, but with solid foundations.”

Sturaro still has fond memories of Juventus and wished them the best in Europe.

“I hope my former teammates win the Champions League. They did something really special in beating Atletico Madrid and can achieve great things for Italian football.”
