Cagliari boss Rolando Maran has instructed his side to play with the ‘spirit’ they showed against Inter when they face Fiorentina on Friday.

Cagliari beat Inter 1-0 earlier in the month but lost 2-0 to Bologna last weekend, and Maran urged his side to use their performance against the Nerazurri as a blueprint for the rest of the season.

“I’m glad we’re playing right away, we want to redeem ourselves,” he said at a Press conference.

“We’ve often succeeded in asserting ourselves on the field, and we hope it happens again tomorrow.

“We need to put in a better performance than we did at Bologna. The game at Bologna really annoyed me because I wanted answers and I didn’t get them.

“For large parts we played on par with Bologna, but we couldn’t put in those things that, for a team like us, make the difference.

“I want to see the spirit we showed against Inter again. There are points up for grabs every week.

“We won’t be influenced in any way because of the international break coming up or the situation we’re in.

“Fiorentina are a good team and well organised thanks to their Coach. Above all, they have huge power. As always, however, we must focus on ourselves.

“Birsa? I have to play who’s best for this game and I must have arrows in my bow to use. I have many options available.

“Valter’s still playing with someone watching, so he has to wait a bit longer. The only one called up with doubts is [Luca] Pellegrini. Despodov is out.”
