Juventus have identified FC Porto centre-back Eder Militao as an alternative to their first choice, Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax.

According to Rai Sport, the Bianconeri were impressed by the 21-year-old’s performances in the Champions League this season, including in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Roma.

The favourite option remains De Ligt, but with the bidding war already escalating, Militao could represent a valid alternative.

The favourite option remains De Ligt, but with the bidding war already escalating, Militao could represent a valid alternative.

Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici was at the Stadio Olimpico for the Roma-Porto game and it’s rumoured he was there to watch Militao.

The price-tag is still high, in the region of his €50m release clause, but nonetheless lower than De Ligt and with considerably less competition.

Despite turning 21 last month, Militao already has one senior cap for Brazil.

Porto purchased him from Sao Paulo last summer at a cost of €4m, but the Brazilian club would also receive 10 per cent of any future sale.
