FC Zurich Coach Ludovic Magnin was more frustrated with the performance than the 3-1 result against Napoli. “They are much stronger.”

The Partenopei came away with a 3-1 first leg victory thanks to goals from Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon and Piotr Zielinski.

“I above all saw in the first half a Napoli side that is much stronger than us, especially as we didn’t start the game the way we intended,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“I above all saw in the first half a Napoli side that is much stronger than us, especially as we didn’t start the game the way we intended,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We weren’t determined enough in the challenges. Napoli lowered the tempo after the break and without pressure or anything left to lose, we started playing better.

“We’ve got new players, it’s our third game together and there was a long winter break, but we’re not looking for alibis. The problem was the tempo and intensity that Napoli played at. We are not accustomed to playing at this level in Switzerland.”

Zurich did get one back with a penalty and could’ve had a second in stoppages, denied by the woodwork.

“We are not crazy here, if the opponents score three goals away from home, we know it’s going to be difficult. We’re not dreaming, but will go to the Stadio San Paolo to get a positive result and show what we can do, far more than we did this evening.

“The issue was not that we lost, but that we lost without showing what we are really capable of.”
