The stage is set for Lautaro Martinez to lead Inter’s attack against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League last 32 on Thursday.

Mauro Icardi pulled out of Inter’s squad on his own volition, so Martinez is free to take on the role of starting striker in Austria.

Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic will line up for the first time since being named the Nerazzurri’s permanent captain, but Milan Skriniar and Marcelo Brozovic are suspended, while Keita Balde Diao is still carrying a hamstring injury.

Consequently, Miranda should come into central defence alongside Stefan de Vrij and Borja Valero is set to partner Matias Vecino in the midfield double pivot.

Rapid, meanwhile, have a former Inter player in their ranks in attacking midfielder Christoph Knasmuller, who spent the second half of the 2011-12 campaign with the Beneamata’s Primavera squad.

Rapid (probable): Strebinger; Muldur, Sonnleitner, Dibon, Bolingoli; Schwab, Grahovac; Murg, Knasmullner, Ivan; Berisha

Inter (probable): Handanovic; Cedric, De Vrij, Miranda, Asamoah; Vecino, Valero; Politano, Nainggolan, Perisic; Lautaro
