Nahitan Nandez agents are flying in for talks with Cagliari after Boca Juniors President Daniel Angelici confirmed “he doesn’t want to miss this opportunity.”

The Uruguay international midfielder is seen as a potential replacement for Nicolò Barella, who is targeted by Chelsea, Napoli and Inter.

“A proposal arrived from Cagliari and Boca accepted it, seeing as the player doesn’t want to miss this opportunity,” Angelici told Radio Continental.

“He wanted to leave and even suggested holding a Press conference so he could explain to the fans his reasons for going.

“However, I cannot accept the payment terms put forward by Cagliari. We’d have to pay $1.5m in taxes. If nothing changes, then he will remain here.

“I had thought a June transfer would give him other options, but Nandez reiterated this is the opportunity he wants to take. I don’t like to keep hold of players whose minds are already with other clubs.

“I did try to convince him to stay here at least until the summer.”

According to TyC Sports, Nandez’s agents are flying in to Italy for negotiations over personal terms with Cagliari.

The payment structure problem with Boca is mainly one of timing, as the first instalment of the €21m release clause would only be €2m and not paid until late this year.
