Rolando Maran was reassured by the Cagliari reaction to draw 2-2 with SPAL, “because going 2-0 down could’ve finished us.”

SPAL had gone 2-0 up, but Cagliari scored twice in three minutes to snatch a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Stadio Mazza in Ferrara.

“The reaction is one of the most positive aspects, because going 2-0 down could’ve finished us, but instead we hit back and got the game on level terms,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The reaction is one of the most positive aspects, because going 2-0 down could’ve finished us, but instead we hit back and got the game on level terms,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The lads are aware that if we play together with intensity, we can cause a lot of problems for any opponent. We kept a clear head and focused on the task at hand.

“I am convinced we can improve a great deal and that bodes well for the future. This side has been growing game by game, occasionally there are mistakes, but we are working towards the right direction and just have to keep it going.

“We didn’t play well in the first half and the goal after three minutes affected our confidence. Perhaps the second goal was almost taking the weight off our shoulders and making us realise we had to just go for it.

“Fundamental players for us stepped up and provided the moves that created the goals. Tactics and systems are fine, but ultimately the players on the pitch make the difference.

“We came here not ruling anything out, as we wanted the maximum points. If the opposition does better, then we tip our hats to them. I saw a strong reaction, but also areas we have to work on, as we do regularly seem to concede goals in the opening minutes.”
