“I think we were closer to what we all think Roma can be and deserved more than a draw, but that moment changed the game,” Monchi told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s a pity, as I don’t like talking about the referees and I realise it’s a difficult job, but this season situations like this all seem to go against us.
“Maybe we need to reflect, because Roma never talk about referees and we keep quieter about this than anyone else in Serie A. It has happened a few times now, so I just ask for a bit of justice.
“I am convinced nobody does it on purpose, but we just want to be treated the same way as everyone else. If we have to talk, we’ll talk.
“I am a staunch defender of VAR and I think it should’ve been used today. When there is a flagrant error that everyone said was a penalty that shouldn’t have been given, VAR ought to intervene or at least tell the referee to view it again.
“Let’s not forget now many people work for this club and these fans.”
