Roma director Monchi insists the panic over their poor start to the campaign is “too soon” and denies Rick Karsdorp is snubbed.

“It’s not easy to start the season like this, but the team understands the situation, the players talk to each other and I think we’re convinced we’ll find the solution soon,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

Karsdorp didn’t even make the trip to Bologna, so with three appearances after a €14m move from Feyenoord in the summer of 2017, is the Dutchman on his way out?

“We have three full-backs on the bench, so it’s not unusual to leave Karsdorp out. It’s only natural. We all have to improve, he suffered some injuries when he arrived last season, so we must have patience with him.”

Monchi was asked whether the club got it wrong on selling so many players and creating such a big turnover.

“Talking about getting the transfer strategy wrong in September is far too soon. In January, people talked about getting rid of Cengiz Under, but he had a fantastic second half to the season.

“I’ve been doing this work for 20 years, I have read so much about players, but at times I am confused. I took responsibility with this role and you in the media should realise when you’re worrying too soon.”
