Borriello made the shock move to Ibiza over the summer, and the 36-year-old – who can count Juventus, Milan and Roma as former clubs – explained his switch went beyond football.

“In life, numbers speak for themselves,” he told Cadena COPE.

“I’ve played 400 games and scored more than 100 goals. People like to talk about my summer, but that’s only a month of the year. I’ve always been very professional.

“Ibiza? This is a serious project, something’s being built that didn’t exist before. I want to help with my experience and all I can give.

“Ibiza doesn’t have only nightclubs, it also has an important sporting future. The fans? They don’t ask me a lot of photos.

“Instead, I’ll say that I have more shots in games than they ask me for pictures. The future? I want to live in Ibiza for the rest of my life.

“This island gives me peace of mind and I want to raise a family here.”
