Napoli have agreed basic terms with Udinese for goalkeeper Alex Meret at a cost of €25m plus bonuses, claim Sportitalia.

The reports state that there was a meeting today between the two clubs, as the Partenopei were frightened by interest from Roma and Fiorentina.

It’s claimed the good rapport between the two clubs enabled negotiations and Udinese patron Gino Pozzo gave his word to Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The goalkeeper is only 21 years old, but considered to be one of the heirs to Gigi Buffon for Italy.

He spent the last two seasons on loan at SPAL.

Napoli will now try to work out personal terms with Meret’s agent for a five-year contract.

However, Sportitalia also claim the negotiations with Udinese include an offer for Orestis Karnezis.

The Greek international turns 33 next month and would act as a mentor to Meret, returning to Italy after a loan spell at Watford.

The options for the Partenopei goal had been reduced to Meret and Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Alphonse Areola.
