Juventus and Napoli face off in the biggest match of the season, and Football Italia looks at some of the previous Scudetto showdowns.

Juventus 1-0 Napoli, February 13 2016

Napoli went in to this one two points clear of Juve, who had recovered after a difficult start to the season.

The Partenopei could have stretched their lead to five points, but with both sides seemingly content with a draw, Simone Zaza’s deflected strike saw the Bianconeri go top for the first time that season.

They never relinquished top spot, and won the Scudetto for a fifth year in a row.

Milan 3-0 Inter, April 2 2011

Inter may have lost Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2010, but they maintained most of that squad for the 2010-11 season.

A brief and unhappy spell for Rafa Benitez on the bench gave away to Leonardo, and ahead of the Derby della Madonnina the Nerazzurri had the chance to go top with a win.

Max Allegri’s Milan held a two point advantage, and Alexandre Pato opened the scoring after just one minute.

Another goal for the Brazilian and an Antonio Cassano strike sealed a 3-0 win, with the Rossoneri going on to win the Scudetto.

Milan 1-0 Roma, May 2 2004

For Roma to have any chance of denying Carlo Ancelotti’s Milan the Scudetto, they had to win at San Siro.

The Giallorossi were six points behind with just three matches remaining, so knew that defeat would mathematically hand the Diavolo the title.

Andriy Shevchenko scored after two minutes, Roma could recover and Milan celebrated another Scudetto with a win over their closest rivals.

Juventus 1-0 Inter, April 26 1998

Even with the 20th anniversary coming up, controversy still surrounds the Week 31 Derby d’Italia of the 1997-98 season.

Juventus were one point ahead of Marco Simone’s side going in to the match, and took the lead thanks to a fantastic Alessandro Del Piero goal on 21 minutes.

The match became increasingly bad-tempered, boiling over after a pair of incidents in the 69th minute.

With Inter on the attack, Ronaldo and Mark Iuliano collided in the box, with the Nerazzurri convinced it was a penalty.

Referee Piero Ceccarini waved play-on though, with Juventus breaking forward and being awarded a penalty of their own.

Del Piero missed it, but a furious Simone had to be pushed off the pitch, as a mass argument broke out.

Ceccarini stands by his decision, saying earlier this month he should have given a free-kick to Juventus.

Napoli 2-3 Milan, May 1 1988

Arrigo Sacchi’s only Scudetto came thanks to a dramatic collapse by Diego Maradona’s Napoli, who went in to the 1987-88 season as the reigning champions.

Despite only losing one of their first 20 Serie A games, the Partenopei won just two of the next seven and went in to the head-to-head clash with their lead reduced to one point.

Pietro Paolo Virdis hit a double and Marco van Basten scored after 76, rendering goals from Maradona and Careca useless.

Milan took the lead, and though they failed to win either of their remaining two games, Napoli lost to Fiorentina and Sampdoria and Sacchi’s side took the Scudetto by three points.
