“We had a good performance against Sampdoria on Wednesday and I got positive responses from the players,” said the Coach of their last-gasp 1-0 defeat.

“Clearly, we still have a lot to improve and correct. We must be more courageous when attempting certain moves and control the ball better.”

Over the last few days, supporters have criticised Donadoni, including a banner at the training ground complaining he wasn’t ambitious enough.

“Last season we amassed 41 points and are on track to beat that total. I realise some fans are not happy, but the only way to convince them is with action and results. In any case, it was a calm week.

“Cagliari’s greatest strength is their desire to get a result. They’ll also want to put balls in for their centre-forward, Leonardo Pavoletti.

“Unfortunately, Mattia Destro, Godfred Donsah and Erick Pulgar have not recovered. Filip Helander thought it was a joke when we told him he’d fractured his rib.

“We also need to carefully evaluate the conditions of Rodrigo Palacio and Andrea Poli. Cagliari play with three at the back, we’ll see what we do, as much of it could be down to the injury list.”
