Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin insists Davide Ballardini “simply has to be” the Coach next season. “It shouldn’t even be a question.”

The Grifone are practically safe from the threat of relegation, sitting 10 points clear of the drop zone with five rounds to go.

Ballardini took over from Ivan Juric on November 6 with a contract to the end of the season and turned their campaign around for the third time.

He had already rescued them coming in mid-season in 2010-11 and 2013-14.

“The Coach has been able to bring consistency, as when he arrived we had six points, whereas now we’re on 38,” Perin told Sky Sport Italia.

“He deserves to have faith put in him. It’s not up to us players to decide, but to be honest, it shouldn’t even be a question. Ballardini simply has to be the Coach next season and absolutely deserves to have a full campaign from start to finish.”
