Leonardo Semplici said SPAL “deserve credit” for stopping Juventus and believes they have finally settled into their Serie A surroundings.

This result saw Serie A leaders Juve held after 12 consecutive victories in the league, but it certainly was not a Catenaccio approach.

It also confirmed the Spallini’s excellent recent form, as they have picked up eight points in the last four rounds.

“The lads put in a great performance, we limited Juventus and also tried to take the game to them, pass the ball around and keep hold of it. I am satisfied with the game, the approach and the point,” Semplici told Mediaset Premium.

“We gave a sense of consistency to our previous three games, it should give us more belief going forward. There’s a long way to go, but tonight SPAL showed that not only do we belong in Serie A, but we have what it takes to achieve our objective.

“We did well to limit Juventus, perhaps it wasn’t their best performance, but I’d give a lot of credit to SPAL for stopping them doing what they do best.

“Juve only had two shots on goal and this group of lads is maturing week by week after a difficult start. We were lacking experience at first, including myself, as in two years we went from Lega Pro to Serie A.

“It was a learning curve, we needed to go through the setbacks to figure ourselves out and we became more united among difficulties, so now we’re starting to see the results.”

Semplici was asked his opinion on the Scudetto race, as this result could well have an impact on it.

Napoli and Juventus are very strong. Juve have the experience of a side accustomed to challenging on many different fronts and have a bigger squad, but Napoli are to be respected for their style of football and organisation.

“It’ll be a fight to the end, but right now Juventus remain the favourites.”
