Reports emerged on Monday that Valencia would not be able to afford their €25m option to buy Kondogbia, and while their general manager reiterated the club’s desire to purchase the midfielder, he confessed Financial Fair Play was an obstacle.
“We’re obliged to raise €45m… We have a unilateral purchase option to buy Kondogbia until May 31,” Mateu Alemany told reporters.
“There’s an agreement with Inter. At that point, we’ll make a decision, not before that, although we’re happy with his performance, that’s clear.
“Cancelo? The deals for him and Kondogbia are linked. The dates coincide, as well as the forms of payment, although the amounts don’t.
“Will Inter keep him? The only thing I can say is that he’s playing regularly. Inter didn’t ask us about Kondogbia and we didn’t ask about Cancelo.”
