Not only are Davide Astori and Jordan Veretout suspended, but Cyril Thereau is also out injured after cracking a rib in training.

“It’s a new season from tomorrow and every point is precious, as there’s very little separating sixth from 11th,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The Winter break was useful to rest and recuperate, I like the way the team reacted in training. It won’t be a decisive match against Sampdoria, but it remains a head-to-head clash for position.

“I am not worried, as we must work as a team and ensure everybody is ready when called upon. Samp play good football and are dangerous in attack.

“Gaston Ramirez is a particular concern, as I worked with him at Bologna, so I know his talent. Lucas Torreira also contributes to their attacking moves from a deeper position, so we need to neutralise Samp with teamwork.

“We might not have the consistency of Atalanta or the strength in depth of Milan, but we can have our say in the race for Europe. We need to be ambitious and win as many games as possible.”

Fiorentina squad for Sampdoria: Badelj, Benassi, Biraghi, Cerofolini, Chiesa, Cristoforo, Gil Dias, Dragowski, Eysseric, Gaspar, Babacar, Laurini, Milenkovic, Olivera, Pezzella, Sanchez, Saponara, Simeone, Sportiello, Vitor Hugo, Zekhnini
