The Italy international has barely played since arriving from Sunderland in the summer of 2016.

“We had close contact with (Chievo director) Romairone and would very happily join Chievo,” agent Furio Valcareggi told Radio Crc.

“The negotiations are continuing, but in football a player earns because of what he has done and not what he will do in future. Giaccherini earns that salary because he won Scudetti, played in the European Championship and scored six goals in 29 games.

“There is absolutely no chance of him cutting his wages. There will be no discount. If we don’t manage to agree terms, then he will remain at Napoli. He trains even without playing, but it has to be done.

“I do have the feeling this move will go through, though. Chievo want Emanuele and we want to join them, but the key to it all is Napoli. We are seeking a mutual separation and I think, in the end, he will go to Chievo.”
