Sacked Milan boss Vincenzo Montella claims his former players “were still behind me” and that “expectations were raised too high.”
Montella was sacked on Monday after Milan dropped more points in Serie A over the weekend, but the Coach felt he still had the dressing room on side, while ‘everyone’ was responsible for the Rossoneri’s indifferent start to the season.
“I’m sorry for the timing, the team were still behind me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m sorry for the timing, the team were still behind me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Nonetheless, I must thank the club, Fassone and Mirabelli, but this is football. There were some successes in the past 18 months, like the Supercoppa, but sadly this is football.
“I hope Rino does a good job, he’s a person that can be trusted. Responsible for Milan’s seventh place? The Coach is always responsible for technical issues. In my opinion, everyone is. Expectations were raised too high.
“I told the team to give all their support to Gattuso and I’m sure he will be able to lift them back up.”
